Mustang

April 17, 2003 - Mustang Day
Mustang Club of America President Bill Johnson has proclaimed April 17, 2003 to
be “Mustang Day”.
The
Ford Mustang was formally introduced to the World on April 17th 1964 at the New
York Word's Fair. This year's Mustang Day begins the countdown to the Fortieth
Birthday Party for our favorite Pony Car.
All
Mustang enthusiasts are encouraged to have fun with their Mustang(s) on that
day.
All Mustang clubs should plan a celebration in their area. Possible activities
can include putting on a Mustang display at your local Ford dealer or go on a
cruise. Have a birthday party complete with cake and ice cream.. Visit a school
with your Mustang to inspire the next generation of Mustangers. Educate them on
the significance of Mustang in the history of the automobile and America's
culture.
Send
press releases to media in your area, this is the perfect time to draw attention
to your club and the Mustang.
Make your plans to attend the Fortieth Anniversary Celebration in Nashville
Tennessee, April 15 -18, 2004. Information will soon be on the Mustang Club of
America website www.mustang.org MCA Home
Everyone needs a reason to celebrate and what better reason than a Mustang Day!
Ted Overstreet Remembered
Ted Overstreet, of the Mustangs Northwest club in Seattle, WA lost
his battle with bone cancer on January 18, 2003. Ted was so loved by those
fortunate enough to know him. He owned a number of Mustangs, including a 1967
fastback, 1969 Mach 1, and more recently -- a 1967 hardtop. His wife Carroll,
who lives in Arlington, Washington, survives him.
Although I did not know Ted I'm told that was a generous man who shared his interest in Mustangs with anyone. He was especially interested in helping young Mustangers in their projects.
MCA
President Bill Johnson was a personal friend of Ted and his wife. What a
wonderful legacy passing the torch to the next generation. As I read the Mustang
club newsletters I receive every month I am seeing more and more Mustang
enthusiasts dying. One Mustang enthusiast left his Mustang to the club that he
belonged to. The club sold the car to raise money for charity. Other clubs have
named show or club participation awards after deceased members.
FUTURE
- "05 Mustang Concept - Cover Stories Continue
AutoWeek in it's January 27 issue features the "05 Mustang on
the cover. In the article there are several great quotes that speak volumes
about the future of our favorite Pony car. Author Bob Gritzinger writes,
"With the exception of the Model T, no Ford Motor Co. car during the past
100 years has meant as much to the automaker's pride and image as the Mustang.
With company's centennial under way and Mustang's 40th anniversary just around
the bend, Ford has a lot riding on getting the Mustang right -- with its past
and for its future."
Team Mustang used the mantra of "fast, fun and affordable" before them
throughout the design phase. Design chief J Mays was quoted at the Detroit show,
"It's tough, it's sexy and it's cool. Anybody can build a sporty car. Only
Ford can build a Mustang." AutoWeek -
Premier Source for Auto News, Reviews, Motorsports Info
AutoWeek in it's January 20 edition in naming the "05 Mustang
Concept the Most Significant car at the 2003 North American International
Automobile Show states, "Ford has finally got Mustang so very right
again."

PAST
- National Mustang Day
Momentum is building for the 2003 National Mustang Day. Many clubs
have contacted me about their plans, a Mustang enthusiast from Great Britain is
planning on celebrating by "giving" his 'Stang an oil change and
taking it for a drive.
Other
things your club can do is send a Press Release to your local media. "Toot
your own horn," let people Know about your club, your activities and the
charities you support. Invite your mayor to proclaim April 17, as Mustang Day in
your community.
"...First Anniversary of the
introduction of the Mustang, some 25,000 "Mustangers" were scheduled
to compete in a "Rally Day U.S.A." program. Sponsored by the National
Council of Mustang Clubs, some 250 Clubs participated in weekend rally, which
included driving and various competitive events. Winners in each Rally were
awarded $50.00 worth of Ford Accessories, and by Company's estimate, some 12,000
Mustangs were involved." Mustang Does It!
Can we beat the first anniversary celebration??

You Think You Can or Can't, You're Right."
